Jednodenní trip do Vídně here we go...
It was a very spontaneous and easy trip, but honestly those are the best ones anyway. We arrived in Vienna around 1–1:30 pm and headed straight to the metro and into the city center.
Our first stop was climbing the St. Stephen’s Cathedral at Stephansplatz. Right there we also tried the best Kaiserschmarrn with plums — and oh my god, it was incredible.
On the way we stopped by Donnerbrunnen, where there’s a beautiful fountain and church, and then continued to the Hotel Sacher café to try the famous Sacher cake, because clearly we hadn’t had enough sweets yet. The cake was moist and really delicious, but for that price it’s honestly more of a tourist experience.
From there we walked past the State Opera back towards Albertina, then through the back streets to the Schmetterlinghaus greenhouse and Burggarten. I definitely want to come back there in the summer — it must be perfect for a picnic or just chilling in the park.
We wandered a bit more towards Weltmuseum Wien, walked across Heldenplatz, and through the area around the Spanish Riding School to Michaelerplatz.
Our main stop of the day was the restaurant Figlmüller for a proper Wiener schnitzel. We ordered both pork and veal (I had the veal) and it was another “oh my god” moment of the day. Even the potato salad was amazing. Of course the portion was huge and I couldn’t finish it all.
Another spontaneous idea was to go to the Prater and ride the Ferris wheel, so once we finished dinner we headed straight there. We used the fast track and skipped the line, which was great.
The ride lasted about 15 minutes and we timed it perfectly — it was just getting dark, so the city lights were already on but it was still bright enough to see the whole view of Vienna.
It was such a great trip and definitely not our last visit to Vienna. Do you have any tips for next time? If you do, I’d love you to share them so I can save them to my map.
